There’s been no shortage of tributes towards J Dilla. Craig D. Lindsey and Philadelphia Weekly take a look at Dilla’s posthumous works and Frank N Dank’s upcoming European Vacation DVD.
The DVD shows footage of Frank N Dank’s tour with Dilla in Europe. Lindsey calls the footage of Dilla on stage in a wheelchair, “practically unnerving”.
Frank talks about that.
“It wasn’t a conscious thing,” Bush says of capturing the sickly Dilla on digital video. “He didn’t think, in his mind, that he was gonna be passing soon. That wasn’t what our mind state was. Most of what you see is us just happy to be on the road with our dude and be out there and doing some things.”
Fellow Dilla friend and artist, Phat Kat, isn’t feeling the release of that Dilla footage on the DVD.
“I just really didn’t think fans would appreciate that,” says Kat. “Every show we did was sold out. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place. I don’t have a problem with anybody or anything, but I just didn’t want to be a part of that.”
European Vacation is due in June along with Frank N Dank’s For Da Record.
J Dilla’s Jay Love Japan is in stores on June 5th.
Phat Kat’s Carte Blanche is in stores now and his tour with Slum Village, Illa J and DJ Dez makes a stop at Alvin’s in Detroit tonight..
