Phat Kat drops his first single, “Cold Steel” from his upcoming Carte Blanche album.
Featuring J Dilla on the beat and Elzhi (second verse)
JIVEMagazine gave Carte Blanche a 4 out of 5 rating in this early review:
Phat Kat’s second solo album and first via Look Records is an underground Hip-Hop classic. With nearly one third of the album’s production coming from the late great J Dilla, Carte Blanche represents one of Detroit’s original and most celebrated collaborations. Whether it’s the work of Dilla, Young RJ, Nick Speed, or Black Milk, Carte Blanche has some of the funkiest drum work to been seen on a Hip-Hop record outside of the Roots. With an up-tempo pace, Phat Kat seamlessly rattles off rhyme after rhyme. Not wanting to be out done, Phat Kat seems to be battling the beat.
