Beata Mostafavi of the Flint Journal has a small write-up about the University of Michigan-Flint’s “Hip-Hop and the State of Its Culture” conference.
Whether you hate it or love it, hip-hop is here to stay.
People will have a chance to examine hip-hop culture, music and imagery from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday at the University of Michigan-Flint’s Hip-Hop and the State of Its Culture conference.
The free conference, open to the public, will include meals.
Organizers hope to create a better understanding for people inside and out of the culture, while opening dialogue about hip-hop’s history, corporate influence, sexism, hypermasculinity, emasculation and materialism.
The conference will include interactive workshops, a viewing of the documentary “Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes,” performances by local and national recording artists and Detroit natives Slum Village.
Details: Office of Educational Opportunity Initiatives, (810) 762-3365.
